Buy Cheapest Computer

How to assemble a cheapest computer?

Your dream comes true with Intel Atom

Nowadays the price of computers and peripherals have decreased considerably and everyone in India can afford a Desktop personal computer. Even the prices of laptops have significantly slashed. For a comparison I bought a Pentium III computer in the year 2001. The configuration was Intel Pentium III processor, 64 MB RAM, 10 GB Seagate Hard Disk Drive, 15" CRT Monitor. The HCL BusyBee Brand was Pre-installed  with Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition. The net price was around thirty three thousand rupees.

Now with increased processor speed, RAM memory and Hard Disk Space and with LCD monitor we can buy two computers for the same cost as in 2001.

Intel introduced Atom processor for Desktop PCs a few years back. The processor was integrated with the motherboard. There was only one PCI slot and only two SATA interfaces. This allowed Intel to manufacture smallest motherboard that requires less power and occupy less space in the cabinet. The Atom Processor based system is ideal for Internet surfers, Word Processing and Office applications. The price of the Processor-Board combination is also low which allows a common man to buy a PC for his home.

Now the Price list for the Intel Atom Processor Based PC in Coimbatore. The price will slightly vary in other parts of Tamil Nadu and India.

Intel Atom Processor and Board Rs. 2850
250 GB Seagate Hard Disk Drive Rs. 1550
1 GB DDR 2 RAM (Dynet) Rs. 800
Mercury ATX Cabinet Rs. 900
LG Multi DVD Writer Rs. 900
Logitech Multimedia Kit Rs. 650
15.5" Acer TFT Monitor Rs. 4400 (LG Monitor Rs. 4700)

So the Total Cost is Rs. 12050/- (The price is inclusive of applicable Taxes) Prices are as on November 2010. The price may vary

If you want protection from power outages purchase a 600VA UPS.
Intex 600VA UPS Rs. 1250.00
Numeric 600VA UPS Rs. 1650.00

Assembling charges Rs. 500 (if you can not assemble we can do it for you!)

The above configuration is  ideal for first time computer buyers and beginners. The Atom based PC ideal even for everyday computing needs like internet browsing, word processing purposes. You can do anything and everything you with a power PC (Core 2 Duo, Core i3 etc.) like music and video playback, simple 2D games, slideshows, printing, connecting devices like mobile phones, cameras, scanners etc.,

Ms Office 2007 - Configuration Process problem

How to prevent Ms-Office 2007 Configuration Process From running every time

Have you ever experienced this problem? Whenever you open Microsoft Office 2007 products like word or excel, a setup window will open with title configuration process. The setup will run every time you open a office product. Many people have experienced this problem. After setup word / excel will eventually open. But this is really annoying.

A client of mine recently came up with this problem. He purchased a  Dell laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and office 2007 enterprise trial pre-installed. After the ms-office trial period had expired he brought his laptop to me. I first uninstalled the ms-office and installed the full version. Then this problem started. The Windows installer will run every time when opening word /excel.

I already had this problem on my Windows XP 32-bit machine with office 2007 enterprise. I used to just cancel the setup and the word / excel application will open. Now i want to find a solution for this. I googled for a solution. There are numerous situations and conditions that will cause this error. Somebody suggested that the problem is related to registry permission. That means the current user does not have read permission to some of the office related registry keys. Somebody told me to look the event viewer to find any warning / error event related to ms office launch. But my machine did not have any such event logs.

Another work around suggested was to add a registry key. I tried the following registry entry and it worked fine on my Windows XP computer. You too can try this. Just copy the below line and put it in the the Run windows. (Start -> Run) and press ok. This will solve the problem for both word and excel. This code will prevent the Windows installer from running everytime you open word / excel.

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

For office 2007 use 12.0 and office 2003 use 11.0

This worked fine one my Windows XP. I tried this on the Windows 7 with no success. After reading many forums and applying the suggestion i still could not solve the problem on Windows 7. I created another user and logged in using that user and installed. Still got the error. This time the configuration proces is not running instead i got error that the windows installer is not properly installed. This occured when i tried to launch word from start -> programs shortcut.

I reinstalled the Windows 7. I used the upgrade option while installing. After the installation everything worked fine! So you too can try re-installing windows. This will solve problems on Windows 7 and even Vista 64-bit operating systems.

Hearing No sound? No problem

What happened to my sound card

In the personal computer systems sound and audio is processed by a dedicated chip. The operating system will communicate with the audio/sound chip via a set of device driver software. This device driver software is usually provided by the manufacturer of the sound card.

Years back sound card is a separate add-on card that is inserted into the PCI slot of the computer motherboard. Recently motherboard manufacturers started providing on-board sound chip eliminating the need for separate PCI card.

If you are having a sound card either PCI or on-board and not hearing the sound there might be some issues with the sound drivers
You can verify whether the sound drivers are installed properly. On windows XP you can check this by right-clicking mycomputers -> properties ->Device manager. Find Sound, Video and game controllers. If there is anything will yellow exclamation mark or unknown device or yellow Multimedia audio controller we can conclude that the drivers are not properly installed. Otherwise there will be a device name like Realtek High Definition Audio.

If the drivers are not properly installed get the drivers from the manufacturer. This is usually shipped with the motherboard CD for on-board audio cards. For PCI cards separate CD-ROM will be provided while you purchase the card.

If you don't have CD-ROM you can search the web. The manufacturer website should have the drivers available for download. Do a Google search and you will be able to get the driver.

No Display problems

What are causes of no display on monitors?

In the morning you go to the office and switch on your computer and there is no display. You just see the black screen and the led indicator on the monitor blinks or the monitor gives no signal error. What are causes for this problem? How to repair the display errors?

You power on the CPU using cabinet's power button. and could not see anything on the monitor. If the monitors led blinks or displays something that no signal there is no problem at all with the monitor. There is some issues with the cpu. Improper RAM (memory chip) installations may cause this problem. Open the chassis and find the RAM slot. Just remove the RAM from its slot. Then reinstall the RAM module(s). Start the computer, you should see display if the problem was caused by RAM.

If you have not used the computer for a long while there may be no display but the CPU still running. In this case try to RESET the CMOS BIOS. To reset the bios to factory default there is a jumper setting. By changing this jumper to reset position and starting the system will reset the BIOS. The put the jumpers to normal position and restart the computer.

If you still have no display then there might be something wrong with the CPU or mother board itself. Please bring it to our service center or call us. 9842284426 for service in coimbatore.

SDRAM - Computer Memory

Memomy in Computers

Computers need Random Access Memory (RAM) to execute programs and process data. This is diffrent from Permanent storage in Hard Disk Drives (HDD). RAMs are costly and comparing Hard Disks RAM memory is small. But Data retrieval is extremely fast in RAMs comparing Hard Disks.

Earlier computers (prior to 2000) had RAMs in the size of 16MB, 32 MB and 64 MB. The speed at which data is transferred from RAM to CPU (Central Processing Unit) is called bus speed (Usually Front Side Bus or FSB). These earlier RAMs are called SD-RAM. RD-RAMs are prior to SD-RAMs. The typical bus speed of these earlier SD-RAMs are 100MHz / 133 MHz.

These SD-RAMs were used in older Pentium III boards. Intel 810 chipsets or 82801 AA, 82801 AB chipsets were used on these mother boards. Typical Central processor speeds are 666MHZ, 700 MHz and 800 MHz.

My first PC was a HCL busy bee with Intel 810 chipset, Intel Pentium III cpu with 700 MHz speed, 10 GB Seagate Hard Disk Drive. 15 inch CRT Color Monitor. This configuration was the latest one at that time (in 2001). Nowadays the CPU speeds have doubled, tripled, multiplied by many times. Now there are dual-core and quad-core processors with more than 3 Ghz clock speed. RAM capacity too have increased. Now a typical new computer has a minimum of 1 GB (Giba byte) RAM and 256 GB of Hard Disk.

The older SD RAMs have been replaced by DDR RAMs. The popular RAM brands are hynix, hyundai, kingston and Transcend. The SDRAMs are used only in older computers. In old markets these are available. In coimbatore, 128 MB SDRAMs are available at Rs. 150. A relatively cheaper price. 256 MB SDRAMs are available at the price of Rs. 220. Newer 256 MB RAMs are available at a cost of Rs. 350. So you can upgrade your older PCs without affecting your pocket. Old 40 GB / 80 GB Hard Disk Drives are available at Rs. 750 and Rs. 1000 respectively.
